POSITION:     Assistant Manager

 

HOURS:    Part time/Full time. Flexible hours. Required to work weekends, occasional evenings, and holidays.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Cedar Coffee Company (CCC) exists to offer excellent coffee, healthy food choices, and a community gathering place for residents and visitors to the Northshore. Spokengear Cyclery and Outdoor provides bicycle sales, rentals and repairs and other products to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors. This position is responsible in assisting management of the CCC shop.

 

The assistant manager’s (AM) role is responsible in helping with the operational aspects of the coffee shop including food preparation, ordering food and supplies, and food safety. The AM will be required to take over management duties when the manager is not able to do so (e.g.– days off, vacation/ sick time).

 

The position works closely with the manager and as part of a team. Working hours of this role are routine but can be amended and planned in advance to meet family needs. The successful applicant will have highly developed interpersonal skills, experience in a service environment, and a willingness to learn new things as needed.

 

 

KEY ACTIVITIES

 

  • Provide excellent customer service in the barista role
  • Assist management in hiring, training, and supervision of staff, provide ongoing mentorship and problem solving with new staff
  • Order food and supplies from vendors according to schedule
  • Prepare and manage coffee menu, food prep and baked goods
  • Prepare or supervise the daily cash/checks for banking and prepare reports required by the owners
  • Ensure the coffee shop is clean, neat, and orderly according to Lake County Health Department policies and the MN Food Code
  • Help with advertising and promotion including social media

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Direct experience working in small business or a hospitality related service
  • High-level interpersonal skills -  able to communicate with customers and staff to provide quality service and solve problems
  • Skills in the use of point of sale (POS) equipment and café equipment
  • An understanding of quality management and performance improvement
  • Must work well as a team member
  • Must demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills for internal and external communications
