Full Time Bicycle Mechanic and Sales

Posted: 11/18/2019

We're looking to expand our team here at Spokengear Cyclery & Outdoor in Two Harbors, MN. We run a small, independent bike shop where everyone does a little bit of everything so experience as a mechanic is a must and sales experience is a plus! Spokengear is a very casual place by design and we're looking for someone who will fit in with our friendly, laid-back approach that informs how we work with both our customers and each other. We're working hard to build a community-focused shop on the North Shore where everyone feels comfortable and welcome.

Job details:

Compensation: Hourly, depends on experience

Hours: Full-time, 32 hours guaranteed in the off-season (think October-March), 36-40 hours in the busy season (April-September).

You'll work alongside Dan, the owner, and Erik, the shop manager, as we continue to build our shop's reputation in the world of adventure cycling. Expect to work some weekends, but we do our best to open and close the shop on time, making this one of the few 9-5 (9-2 on Sunday) bike shops we know of. Benefits include PTO and discounts at Cedar Coffee and Cedaero.

A bit more about us:

Spokengear is a full service bike shop located under the same ownership and same roof as Cedaero (Bikepacking pack maker), and Cedar Coffee Company (Highest rated coffee shop for miles around). At Spokengear, we specialize in all types of adventure cycling, from gravel racing to world touring. We are a Salsa Adventure Center, the Northland's only stocking Surly dealer, and we also carry Norco, BMC and a few smaller brands.

Our beautiful building is located off the beaten path in a 6 acre cedar grove. We have been open for 3 ½ years and have a great start and loyal customer base. We're surrounded by many awesome gravel roads through National Forest lands and local single track trails as well as winter groomed trails for fat-biking nearby. Our small town of Two Harbors, MN is situated on Lake Superior 20 miles northeast of Duluth and is growing, but still has a small town feel. Our region is home to the Heck of the North series of gravel races, US Bike Route 41, and a growing network of world-class single-track from Duluth on up to Grand Marais.

If you think you'd be a good fit for our shop:

1. Send a cover letter/email - be sure to outline your previous experiences getting paid to work on bikes, your strengths and weaknesses as a mechanic, the types of riding you really get excited about etc. Best to use the following email address. shop at spokengear dot com

2. Attach a list of 3 references with contact details.

3. Attach a resume that shows and highlights your previous professional bike shop experiences.

Happy Trails,

Dan & Erik
